Installing Replacement Battery in Elk Security System/Run Battery Test

Note: There is not a way to disable the beeping/low battery message till the battery is replaced.


Step 1: Open the front of Elk cabinet, normally locked. The Key should be on top of the panel.

Step 2: Remove the old battery by disconnecting red and black wire from leads.

Step 3: Install the new battery and make sure red to red and black to black. If backwards you will fry the circuit board.

Step 4: The low battery message will go away within 12-24 hours once the panel runs a battery test which it does every 12 hours.

 

If you want the Low Battery Message to go away right away:

To run a battery test, follow instructions based on which keypad you have:

Step 1: Hit Elk button (if it asks for code punch your code in)

Step 2: Press 8 (System Settings) then Right Arrow

Step 3: Press 4 (System Test) then Right Arrow

Step 4: Battery Test then press right arrow. 

Step 5: Let run for 30 seconds.

Step 6: After 30 seconds hit star and this should clear low battery message.

Step 1: On the Touchscreen hit Menu.

Step 2: Hit System Settings

Step 3: Hit System test and then battery test for 30 seconds. 

Step 4: Let run for 30 seconds and then hit the red x to get back to the main screen.  This should clear the low battery message.
