Speed tests help you determine if you are receiving the speed, you to get from the Internet Service Provider.
You may run a speed test when you notice your network running slow or just to do it. One of the most popular speed test sites is www.speedtest.net
Most of the time you will not get the same speed as you pay for. This speed is measured from your end device (PC, Laptop, Phone) to the access point (if wireless), to the router, to the modem, then to the speed test site.
Things that may impact test results:
- WiFi interference
- End device
- Range from router
- How many devices are on the network
To get true results you will need to connect an Ethernet cable from your PC to the modem. Then run a speed test. The PCs network card must support the speed that you pay for, and you also must use an ethernet cable that supports the speed that you pay for.
